What changed
- Thunderbird Sport debuted with the 5.0-liter V8 and handling-oriented chassis.
- Turbo Coupe gained intercooling, revised styling, anti-lock brakes, and transmission-dependent output ratings.
- Ford refined the front suspension and exterior of the standard car.
Worth knowing
Notable
- Ford explicitly names four series; Sport is not merely a generic handling option in this model year.
Living with it
Reliability & ownership notes
- Do not use the five-speed Turbo Coupe's 190-hp specification for the 150-hp automatic car.
- The brochure itself publishes distinct oil and spark-plug intervals for Turbo Coupe versus the other engines.
