Year over year

What changed

  • Heritage replaced the 1978 Diamond Jubilee Edition as the top named Thunderbird model.
  • The 400 V8 was deleted, leaving the standard 302 and optional 351.
  • Thunderbird and Town Landau continued beside Heritage for the generation's final model year.

Worth knowing

Notable

  • Sports Decor is an option group, not a fourth model; the roster preserves only Thunderbird, Town Landau, and Heritage.
