Ford's 1985 Thunderbird brochure separates four named series: Thunderbird, luxury-oriented élan, the white FILA edition, and Turbo Coupe. The naturally aspirated cars offered a 3.8-liter EFI V6 with SelectShift or Automatic Overdrive and an optional 5.0-liter EFI V8 with Automatic Overdrive; Turbo Coupe paired its 2.3-liter turbo four with a five-speed manual or SelectShift automatic.
