The 2018 model year

Overview

For 2018 Dodge reorganized the Charger's V6 range: SXT and SXT Plus were rear-drive, while the 300-hp GT and GT Plus were the retail all-wheel-drive choices. Six rear-drive V8 performance models continued, from R/T through SRT Hellcat. The separate fleet catalog retained V6 RWD, V8 RWD and V8 AWD Pursuit models, producing thirteen defensible configurations across retail and police sales.

Year over year

What changed

  • SE was replaced at the base of the retail range by SXT, with SXT Plus added above it.
  • Retail AWD moved to the newly named GT and GT Plus, both using the 300-hp Pentastar calibration.
  • A seven-inch Uconnect touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto became standard on SXT.
  • Every retail model gained ParkSense rear park assist and a ParkView rear camera as standard equipment.

Worth knowing

Notable

  • Ten retail trims and three fleet Pursuit powertrains receive distinct pages.
  • SXT Plus leather and Super Track Pak are represented as packages, not invented powertrain models.
  • Daytona and Daytona 392 continued as separate 5.7- and 6.4-liter models.
  • SRT Hellcat remained the 707-hp, rear-drive top model; AWD was not offered on any retail V8 Charger.

Living with it

Reliability & ownership notes

  • Do not apply 2017 SE/SXT AWD naming to 2018: the factory guide assigns retail AWD to GT and GT Plus.
  • SXT/SXT Plus use the 292-hp rear-drive calibration; GT/GT Plus use the 300-hp AWD specification.
  • Pursuit V8 AWD remains a fleet configuration with a five-speed automatic and duty-cycle hardware, not a retail GT V8.
  • The three naturally aspirated 6.4-liter models share output but differ in brake, suspension, wheel and trim equipment.
