The 2016 model year

Overview

The 2016 Charger carried forward the redesigned body, interior and all-eight-speed powertrain range introduced for 2015. Dodge's buyer's guide again lists nine core configurations: rear- and all-wheel-drive SE and SXT V6 models, three 5.7-liter R/T variants, and the rear-drive R/T Scat Pack, SRT 392 and SRT Hellcat performance cars.

What changed

  • The nine-model drivetrain roster continued without adding an R/T AWD configuration.
  • Go Mango and Plum Crazy joined the documented exterior-color range.
  • Blacktop was offered on SXT and R/T, while Rallye remained an SXT package carrying the 300-hp V6 rating.
  • R/T Scat Pack, SRT 392 and SRT Hellcat retained their separate brake, suspension and seating specifications.

Notable

  • The buyer's guide explicitly assigns AWD to two V6 columns and no V8 column.
  • All four engines continued with a TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic.
  • R/T Scat Pack retained four-piston Brembo brakes and fixed Bilstein high-performance suspension.
  • SRT Hellcat remained rated at 707 hp and 650 lb-ft with Dodge's cited 11.0-second street-tire quarter-mile result.

Living with it

Reliability & ownership notes

  • AWD factory models remain limited to SE and SXT and use the 3.6-liter V6; the V8 retail configurations are rear-drive.
  • The 300-hp rating requires the Rallye Group; regular SE and SXT engines remain rated at 292 hp.
  • Do not collapse R/T Scat Pack and SRT 392 fitment: their wheel widths, front brakes, suspension and standard tires differ despite sharing the 6.4-liter engine.
  • Hellcat-specific supercharger, cooling, brake and heavy-duty transmission parts require 6.2-liter SRT Hellcat applicability.
