The 2017 model year

Overview

The 2017 Charger retained the eight-speed LD-platform retail range and added two heritage-focused Daytona models. The complete U.S. catalog comprises eight core retail drivetrain variants, the 5.7-liter Daytona and 6.4-liter Daytona 392, plus three separately documented police-fleet Pursuit configurations. Retail AWD remained limited to SE and SXT V6 models, while the fleet-only Pursuit V8 AWD was a distinct exception.

What changed

  • Daytona returned as separate 5.7-liter and Daytona 392 models with heritage graphics, wider wheels and model-specific performance hardware.
  • An electronically controlled 2.75-inch active exhaust became standard on every retail 5.7-liter HEMI model.
  • Fourth-generation Uconnect 8.4 introduced Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, faster processing and a higher-resolution touchscreen.
  • The Pursuit fleet range added an available 12.1-inch integrated law-enforcement display while retaining V6 RWD, V8 RWD and V8 AWD choices.

Reliability & ownership notes

  • Retail AWD applies only to the 3.6-liter SE and SXT; the V8 AWD configuration is a police-fleet Pursuit and uses different duty-cycle hardware.
  • Daytona and Daytona 392 use different engines, wheel widths and brake packages, so the heritage name alone is not sufficient for parts selection.
  • R/T Scat Pack, Daytona 392 and SRT 392 share the 485-hp 6.4-liter engine but do not share every brake, suspension, wheel or trim component.
  • Pursuit cars require fleet/VIN fitment checks for brakes, cooling, electrical and chassis parts rather than retail-trim assumptions.
