Mustang Fastback (SportsRoof)
The fastback is the Mustang's signature sporting roofline. It was not a launch body style — the 2+2 fastback joined the original hardtop and convertible for the 1965 model year — and it quickly became the canvas for the icons, from the GT and Mach 1 to the Boss cars and the Bullitt. Ford renamed it "SportsRoof" for 1969–1973. The fastback profile faded with the more upright Mustang II and Fox-body bodies, then returned as a styling theme: the S197 (2005–2014) was explicitly a retro fastback revival, and Ford has badged the standard two-door of the S550 and S650 generations a "fastback" coupe. The classic 1965–1973 fastbacks and SportsRoofs remain the most collectible body style of the early cars.
