The 2020 model year

Overview

The performance high-water mark of the generation. The Shelby GT500 arrived with a 5.2 L supercharged "Predator" V8 making 760 horsepower — the most powerful street-legal Ford and the most powerful production Mustang ever to that point — paired exclusively with a 7-speed Tremec dual-clutch transmission. Below it, the 2.3 L EcoBoost gained a High Performance Package (a 330 hp turbo borrowed in part from the Focus RS). This was also the final year for the Bullitt and for the GT350 / GT350R.

Year over year

What changed

  • Shelby GT500 launched — 5.2 L supercharged "Predator" V8, 760 hp, the most powerful street Mustang to that point.
  • GT500 used a 7-speed Tremec dual-clutch transmission (no manual offered).
  • EcoBoost High Performance Package added (330 hp turbo-four).
  • Final year for the Bullitt and for the Shelby GT350 / GT350R.

Worth knowing

Notable

  • Most powerful production Mustang ever at launch (760 hp GT500).
  • Last year of the naturally aspirated flat-plane GT350 / GT350R and of the Bullitt — a landmark sign-off year for collectors.

Living with it

Reliability & ownership notes

  • The GT500's dual-clutch transmission and supercharged Predator are high-output hardware — these are best bought with full service history; track-used cars warrant extra scrutiny.
  • The EcoBoost HPP turbo is a stouter unit than the standard 2.3.

Current market value

We don't publish a market estimate for the 2020 model year yet. A valuation ships here only when it can be sourced and dated — we'd rather show nothing than a number we can't stand behind.
