Overview
The sixth-generation Mustang (chassis code S550) was a ground-up redesign and the most significant rethink of the car since 1964. It was the first Mustang with an independent rear suspension as standard equipment — retiring the live rear axle the nameplate had used for fifty years — and the first Mustang engineered as a truly global car, with factory right-hand-drive models sold worldwide. The engine lineup spanned a new 2.3 L turbocharged EcoBoost four, a carryover-architecture 3.7 L V6, and an updated 5.0 L "Coyote" V8.
