S550 Mustang (sixth generation)
2015–2023
The most thoroughly re-engineered Mustang since 1964. The sixth-generation S550 was the first Mustang with an independent rear suspension as standard equipment — retiring the live rear axle the nameplate had used for fifty years — and the first Mustang engineered as a truly global car, sold worldwide with factory right-hand-drive models. The engine lineup spanned a new 2.3-liter turbocharged EcoBoost four, a 3.7-liter V6 (dropped after 2017), and the 5.0-liter "Coyote" V8. Its performance roster was the deepest in Mustang history — the flat-plane-crank Shelby GT350/GT350R, the 760-hp supercharged Shelby GT500, the Bullitt, and the Mach 1 — across coupe and convertible body styles.
