The 2006 model year
Overview
The 2006 Silverado light-duty range received revised front styling and added a 5-foot-8-inch Extended Cab short box, distinct from the standard and long Extended Cab boxes and the Crew Cab short box. The selected offerings below follow the dated ordinary 1500 and separate SS order appendices. Other combinations and optional packages remain under research; this is not a complete annual roster.

Year over year
What changed
- The new Extended Cab short box has distinct CC15553/CK15553 identities; it is not the Crew Cab CC15543/CK15543 short box.
- The light-duty front appearance changed; separate Heavy Duty and diesel updates are not applied to these 1500 offerings.
- The SS two-wheel-drive offering began during interim 2005; the 2006 SS appendix documents a separate dated selection.
Worth knowing
Notable
- Ordinary ordering is dated July 29, 2005; SS ordering June 17, 2005; separate HD material July 1, 2005 is not merged.
- L33 requires CK15753 and the Light Duty Power Package (PDU), excluding the Z83 Solid Smooth Ride suspension package. Delayed 2LS ordering, regional packages and optional engines retain their source restrictions.
- The manual permits E85 only for VIN Z/L59; none of these documented standard offerings is L59. Other engines use unleaded gasoline with engine-specific octane requirements. VIN N/LQ9 specifies 91+ premium and also permits 87+ regular with possible reduced acceleration/light knock.
- Selected ownership topics do not certify every fitted-equipment duty. Verify actual engine, transmission and hardware using the full own-year manual.

Start with the service interval, then match the engine or exact version you own. Order links appear only when a catalog-backed part number is available, and every listing still needs a fitment check.

Gasoline engine oil and filter
Exact reference available
Follow the gasoline Oil Life System: change oil and filter as soon as possible within 600 miles of the message, and at least once a year even without a message; reset after every change. If accidentally reset, change within 3,000 miles since the previous change, not a routine 3,000-mile interval. Use Maintenance I when the message occurs within 10 months of purchase or within 10 months after Maintenance II. Use Maintenance II after prior Maintenance I; always use II at 10 months or more since service or if no message appears for one year. Diesel requires its separate supplement. Fuel permission and octane are separate: VIN Z/L59 alone permits E85; none of these documented standard offerings is L59. VIN N/LQ9 specifies 91+ premium and also permits 87+ regular with possible reduced acceleration/light knock. Verify actual VIN and engine before using an engine-specific reference.

Routine owner checks and Maintenance I/II inspections
Sourced interval available
At each fuel fill check oil, coolant and washer levels using the full procedures. Monthly check pressures including spare, secure spare storage and tire wear; high-mileage highway use may need rotation before the oil message. I/II inspections include leaks and brakes; II adds steering/suspension, cooling, wipers, restraints, body lubrication and applicable fluid checks. Separately from the 150,000-mile/five-year cooling service, the manual recommends system/cap pressure testing and exterior radiator/condenser cleaning at least annually. At least each spring flush corrosion/debris from the underbody. The first 100/1,000/6,000-mile wheel-nut instruction is explicitly dual-wheel, not assigned to these single-wheel records. Use the full manual; inspections are not automatic component replacement.

Sourced interval available
Lubricate specified chassis components at Maintenance I and II. Severe-commercial operating conditions require regular 3,000-mile lubrication; this is not a universal interval. Ball joints must be at least 10°F component temperature before lubrication, not an ambient-temperature shortcut. The period specification is NLGI No. 2 Category LB or GC-LB; no current product is assigned.

Rotate at 5,000–8,000 miles and sooner for unusual wear, using the actual installed tire/wheel pattern; also check wear at I/II and monthly. Rear/front axle and transfer-case levels do not need routine checking absent suspected leakage or unusual noise. Have fluid loss inspected/repaired. Non-Allison automatic transmission service
At the first Maintenance I or II after 100,000 miles for normal service, or after 50,000-, 100,000- and 150,000-mile points for severe service, change automatic fluid/filter. Severe applies if actual GVWR exceeds 8,600 lb OR mainly any listed use: heavy city traffic regularly at an outside temperature of 90°F or higher, hilly/mountainous terrain, frequent trailer towing, taxi/police/delivery. Do not infer actual GVWR or require all uses. The own-year period fluid table specifies DEXRON-VI; no current SKU or exact gearbox model is assigned. MG5 five-speed manual transmission service
Change five-speed manual transmission fluid at the first Maintenance I or II after 150,000 miles. The period table separately names Synchromesh for MG5; do not use the MW3 low-gear, six-speed Allison or automatic fluid rows. No current product or hardware substitution is assigned.

Four-wheel-drive transfer-case conditions
Sourced interval available
Verify actual manual versus automatic transfer-case hardware. Level checks are leak/noise-triggered, not routine. The manual and automatic cases have different period fluid specifications; four-wheel drive alone does not establish automatic hardware.

Only if an automatic transfer case is actually fitted
Change automatic-transfer-case fluid at the first Maintenance I or II after 50,000-, 100,000- and 150,000-mile points. Check the hose at the case for kinks/proper installation. This is a conditional actual-hardware branch, not a universal 4WD schedule.

If a manual transfer case is fitted
The automatic-case 50,000-mile branch is not assigned to this hardware. Follow the full own-year manual case procedure and correct period specification; no invented fixed replacement interval.

Fuel, exhaust and evaporative-system inspectionsView intervals, applicability and sources
Fuel, exhaust and evaporative-system inspections
Sourced interval available
Inspect fuel/exhaust systems at the first I/II after each 25,000-mile service point. Inspect evaporative controls at the first I/II after 50,000-, 100,000- and 150,000-mile points, including routing/condition and purge valve only if fitted. These are inspections, not a borrowed fuel-filter replacement interval.

Spark-plug replacement and wire inspectionView intervals, applicability and sources
Spark-plug replacement and wire inspection
Sourced interval available
At the first Maintenance I or II after 100,000 miles replace spark plugs and inspect spark-plug wires. Inspection does not mean unconditional wire replacement. No extra part number is assigned without engine-specific review.

Cooling-system serviceView intervals, applicability and sources
Cooling-system service
Sourced interval available
Service at the first Maintenance I or II after 150,000 miles or every five years, whichever occurs first. Follow full drain/flush/refill and pressure-check instructions, including cleaning exterior radiator/condenser and testing cap/system. Hot pressurized coolant is hazardous; use the complete original procedure and qualified-service handoff, not shortened steps.

Engine accessory-drive belt inspection
Sourced interval available
Inspect at the first Maintenance I or II after 150,000 miles for wear/fraying/cracks/damage; replace only if necessary. This is not automatic belt replacement.
