The 1999 model year

Overview

The 1999 Silverado 1500 belongs to Chevrolet’s redesigned full-size pickup family. It must be distinguished from the carryover C/K trucks sold in the same period. GM’s 1999 body-builder material labels the Silverado/Sierra 1500 separately and identifies the new pickup’s Regular and Extended Cab bodies. This guide covers those documented body distinctions and selected owner-manual guidance; the complete 1999 trim and powertrain lineup remains under research. Three gasoline engine identities are documented here. Four LT Extended Cab short- and long-box offerings with two- or four-wheel drive are documented from Chevrolet’s original consumer-site selector. Other combinations remain under research; the full 1999 lineup is not claimed complete.

Year over year

What changed

  • GM’s 1999 body-builder information describes new styling for its 1500/2500 full-size pickups. For this guide, only the positively named Silverado 1500 body entries are transcribed; 2500 and carryover C/K applications require their own evidence.

Worth knowing

Notable

  • Choose the new-body Silverado manual rather than assuming every document headed 1999 Chevrolet Truck describes this design. The factory model-code key uses C for Chevrolet as selling division and a separate chassis letter: C means two-wheel drive; K means four-wheel drive. New Silverado/Sierra pickup model types 57 and 59 distinguish the 6.5- and 8-foot cargo boxes from the older 07/09 types.
  • The owner manual’s towing tables positively list 4300 V6 and 4800 V8 engines with manual and automatic transmissions for C1500 and K1500. Those tables do not establish each cab and trim combination or the gearbox model and ratios. The 5300 V8 appears without a gearbox label in these particular tables; this guide does not turn that omission into a transmission-availability claim.
  • The September 7 Chevrolet model and powertrain selector establishes four LT Extended Cab short/long-box and two-/four-wheel-drive offerings with the 5300 V8 and four-speed automatic overdrive. A separate May LT equipment capture corroborates standard equipment; it is not assumed to be an unchanged edition. Box style and gearbox model remain unassigned.
  • Use the ownership section for the original gasoline Oil Life Monitor guidance and its severe-use, dust and calendar conditions. That source-only service card does not establish a replacement-part fitment.

Gasoline engine oil and filter: Oil Life Monitor

    Exact reference available

For the documented gasoline engines, follow the Engine Oil Life Monitor and reset it after an oil and filter change. The manual describes a usual 3,000-to-7,500-mile range, but severe conditions can trigger service before 3,000 miles. Never exceed 7,500 miles or 12 months without changing oil and filter. Dust is not detected by the monitor: in dusty areas change at 3,000 miles or sooner if the oil-change message appears. These are conditional limits, not a fixed 7,500-mile routine interval. The conditional reference below applies only to the documented 5300 LT scope and requires VIN verification; other engine guidance does not establish that part fitment.

Applies to: 1999 · 4300 V6, 4800 V8, 5300 V8 · United States · New-body Silverado 1500 gasoline guidance from the 1999 owner manual. Engine identities follow its own terminology; no diesel, carryover C/K or exact trim/cab configuration is established.

Published interval: 12 months · Maximum 12 months; follow an earlier Oil Life Monitor message, never exceed 7,500 miles, and apply the dusty-use 3,000-mile-or-earlier-message rule. Reset the monitor after service.

    Period oil-filter reference — VIN T gasoline 5300 V8

The original owner-manual engine table maps the gasoline Vortec 5300 V8 to VIN T, and its replacement-parts table lists PF59 for that VIN code. Confirm VIN T and installed-part compatibility before ordering. This is a period reference subject to change; current stock and supersession are not established.

Applies to: 1999 · 5300 V8 · Check the vehicle’s eighth VIN character: this period reference is for VIN T. The configuration record does not certify the original vehicle’s VIN, installed filter or current supersession.
