The 2001 model year

Overview

For 2001, Chevrolet added selected equipment to the existing Silverado. Its Pro-Tec composite pickup box was limited to 4WD 1500 Extended Cab Fleetside short-box equipment with Z71. The feature table marks it unavailable on Base and optional on LS/LT, rather than standard across the truck range.

  • Vortec 5300 V8

Year over year

What changed

  • Conditional Pro-Tec composite-box availability for the selected Fleetside/Z71 applications.
  • Electronic traction assistance required 2WD, V8, automatic and a locking rear differential.
  • Standard LT OnStar was described as a midyear change; no exact introduction date is documented.

Worth knowing

Notable

  • The functional table makes 5300 standard for 1500 LT, requires M30 automatic with that engine and excludes its manual pairing. Individual LT cab, box and drive combinations are not yet documented here; this is not a complete lineup.
  • The gasoline schedule below remains conditional on the monitor and severe/dusty use. Heavy-duty and diesel applications require separate documentation.

    Gasoline engine oil and filter

    Exact reference available

Follow the GM Oil Life System and reset after oil and filter service. The gasoline schedule gives a usual 3,000-to-10,000-mile range, with earlier severe-use messages and a 10,000-mile/12-month ceiling. Dusty use requires 3,000-mile service or an earlier message. This is not a fixed routine replacement interval.

Applies to: 2001 · 4300 V6, 4800 V8, 5300 V8 · Only the documented gasoline engine identities in this Silverado owner manual. A shared engine name does not establish a carryover body or a cab, trim or gearbox combination; diesel guidance requires its separate supplement.

Published interval: 12 months · Annual maximum or earlier service under this year’s Oil Life System, severe-use and dusty-use conditions; see full guidance.

    Period oil-filter reference — verify gasoline 5300 VIN T

The same-year manual maps Vortec 5300 V8 to VIN T and lists PF59 for that VIN. Confirm VIN T and installed-part compatibility before ordering. This is a period reference subject to change; current stock and supersession are not established.

Applies to: 2001 · 5300 V8 · Only gasoline 5300/VIN T; confirm the eighth VIN character and installed part. This reference does not establish a cab, trim or gearbox offering.
