The 2002 model year

Overview

For 2002, Chevrolet’s Silverado range separates ordinary 1500 pickups from the heavier 1500HD, 2500 and HD models. This guide documents six 1500 LT Extended Cab offerings from the September 2001 Chevrolet brochure: Sportside, Fleetside short box and Fleetside long box, each with 2WD or 4x4. The brochure’s LT footnote supplies the 5300 V8 where its table otherwise shows a base engine; Extended Cab automatic-transmission conditions must be read with the power-team table. More trims and versions remain under research.

Worth knowing

Notable

  • The brochure lists Regular Cab with Base or LS trim; this guide does not document an LT Regular Cab offering. Its Crew Cab row is 1500HD with a 6000 V8 and is outside these six ordinary 1500 records.
  • The six published configurations are a researched selection, not the complete 2002 factory lineup. Brochure dimensions with apparent inconsistencies are withheld.
  • Use the 2002 gasoline owner manual for the conditional Oil Life System guidance below. Diesel and HD supplements do not inherit these instructions merely because they share the Silverado name.

    Documented gasoline oil-life guidance

    Exact reference available

Use the GM Oil Life System, which considers engine revolutions and temperature rather than a fixed mileage interval. After an oil-change message, service as soon as possible within the next two fuel stops. Change oil and filter at least annually, reset after service, and maintain the correct level. If reset accidentally, change oil at 3,000 miles since the last change.

Applies to: 2002 · 4800 V8, 5300 V8 · Gasoline identities positively identified in the 2002 manual; no diesel or HD inheritance.

Published interval: 12 months · Annual maximum or earlier service under the original Oil Life System conditions; see full guidance.

    Period oil-filter reference — VIN T gasoline 5300 V8

The original owner-manual engine table maps the gasoline Vortec 5300 V8 to VIN T, and its replacement-parts table lists PF59 for that VIN code. Confirm VIN T and installed-part compatibility before ordering. This is a period reference subject to change; current stock and supersession are not established.

Applies to: 2002 · 5300 V8 · Check the vehicle’s eighth VIN character: this period reference is for VIN T. The configuration record does not certify the original vehicle’s VIN, installed filter or current supersession.
