The 2000 model year
Overview
The new-body Silverado’s second model year brought a useful change to Extended Cab access rather than another complete redesign. Chevrolet’s contemporary 2000 product release describes an optional driver-side rear door arriving in dealerships in late 1999. Its model summary distinguishes three- and four-door Extended Cabs. That publication does not establish the exact build-date transition or make every 2000 Extended Cab a four-door truck. The carryover C/K design requires separate documentation.

Year over year
What changed
- Available driver-side fourth door for Extended Cab trucks, programmable LS/LT power locks and a self-dimming mirror with temperature/compass display.
- The original engine page raises 4800 V8 output to 270 hp and 5300 V8 to 285 hp/325 lb-ft.
- Sportside availability added to 1500 LT and wheel-flare availability to 1500 4WD; these statements do not establish every cab and drive combination.
Worth knowing
Notable
- The engine page makes 5300 V8 and 4L60-E standard for 1500 LT, but individual cab, trim, box and drive combinations are not yet documented here. This is not a complete factory lineup.
- The original 2000 release calls the fourth door optional; a later 2001 history summary describes it as standard for 2000. The contemporary source is retained for its own edition, with no documented changeover date.
- Use the exact-year gasoline Oil Life System conditions below; the monitor, annual maximum and dusty-use rule all matter.

Gasoline engine oil and filter
Exact reference available
Follow the GM Oil Life System and reset after oil and filter service. The manual gives a usual 3,000-to-7,500-mile range, but severe use can trigger service before 3,000 miles. Never exceed 7,500 miles or 12 months. In dusty areas, change at 3,000 miles or an earlier oil-change message. These conditions are not a fixed 7,500-mile routine interval.

Period oil-filter reference — verify gasoline 5300 VIN T
