History
The P7 was previewed at Auto Shanghai in April 2019 and began customer deliveries on 29 June 2020. A four-door fastback designed to compete head-on with the Tesla Model 3, it launched with an NEDC range of up to 706 km in its longest-range rear-drive variant — a figure that drew widespread attention in the Chinese EV market. The P7 was the vehicle that established XPeng as a credible smart-EV maker rather than just a startup, with XPILOT 3.0 autonomous-driving hardware included on premium trims.
A notable production variant, the P7 Wing, appeared in November 2021 with electrically operated scissor doors on the front, outfitted with collision-avoidance radar sensors — a dramatic visual statement. In 2023 XPeng released the P7i (internal code E28a), a significant mid-cycle upgrade that raised combined output to 348 kW, introduced City NGP (an urban autonomous-driving mode using HD mapping), and refreshed the interior. A full second generation (E29) debuted in August 2025 with a new architecture that dropped LiDAR in favor of a camera-and-radar-only sensor suite powered by XPeng's Turing AI chips.
