XPeng P5 History

The P5 was unveiled at Auto Shanghai in April 2021 and entered sales in the fourth quarter of 2021 as XPeng's third production model. Its defining claim was being the first mass-produced car in the world fitted with LiDAR sensors for its advanced driver-assistance system — a 32-sensor suite comprising two LiDARs, 12 ultrasonic sensors, five mmWave radars, and 13 high-resolution cameras. Powered by a 211 PS (155 kW) front motor with battery options of 60.2 kWh or 80.9 kWh, it targeted family buyers who prioritized ADAS technology at a compact-car price.

Sales peaked in 2022 with nearly 38,000 units sold in China before declining as the market moved on and XPeng rationalized its lineup. An updated P5 arrived in late 2023 with simplified trims and the LiDAR option removed. The nameplate was discontinued in 2024, replaced in XPeng's compact-car space by the Mona M03.
