History

The G9 was unveiled at the Guangzhou Auto Show in November 2021 and officially launched in China in the third quarter of 2022. XPeng designed it from the start with export ambitions, making it the first model conceived simultaneously for Chinese domestic buyers and international markets. The G9 offers dual-motor all-wheel drive, 800V high-voltage charging capable of adding up to 200 km of range in five minutes (on compatible chargers), and XPeng's XNGP full-scenario autonomous-driving system on top-spec trims.

The launch in China was accompanied by an initial pricing controversy that required XPeng to simplify the trim structure shortly after launch — a misstep the company acknowledged. Despite the rocky start, the G9 established XPeng in the premium SUV segment and was exported to Europe, Singapore, and Malaysia. An updated version with enhanced ADAS software and infotainment computing was announced for 2026.
