WM Motor EX5 History

The Weltmeister EX5 was unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show in May 2018 and began mass production at WM Motor's Wenzhou plant in September of that year, making it the company's very first production vehicle. Priced from approximately CNY 139,800 to 189,800 (roughly $20,000–$27,000 at launch), it targeted value-conscious Chinese EV buyers in the rapidly growing NEV segment.

The EX5 earned a C-NCAP five-star safety rating in July 2019 and was the first vehicle in its class to be equipped with Bosch L2 advanced driver-assistance systems, beginning with vehicles produced in Q2 2019. Within its first year, the company reported delivering more than 16,000 units, claiming a 97 percent customer satisfaction score. Annual sales peaked at 24,025 units in 2021, making the EX5 WM Motor's highest-volume model across its entire existence.

Production wound down sharply in 2022 alongside the company's worsening financial position — only 4,317 EX5s were delivered that year — and ceased entirely when WM Motor halted all manufacturing at end of 2022.
