Tank Tank 300 History

The Tank 300 debuted at the Chengdu Auto Show in July 2020 as a Wey-branded model, drawing on the same ladder-frame platform as the Great Wall Pao pickup. It went on sale in China on 17 December 2020, and when GWM spun Tank off as a standalone marque in April 2021 the Tank 300 became the new brand's inaugural vehicle.

Its deliberately neo-retro styling — circular headlights, boxy proportions, and visible frame rails — targeted buyers who wanted the character of a classic 4x4 with modern technology. Engine choices across the lineup include a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol (167 kW), a 2.0-litre hybrid, and a 2.4-litre turbodiesel. A high-performance Tank 330 variant powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 producing 265 kW (355 hp) was added later.

The Tank 300 expanded rapidly into export markets from mid-2021, reaching Australia, Mexico, the Middle East, South Africa, and elsewhere. Special editions include the limited-run Cybertank (3,000 units) and the Hooke Edition prototype, which features an extended dash-to-axle ratio and a solid front axle for more extreme off-roading.
