Audi Q7 History
History
Unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2005 and going on sale in 2006 (Typ 4L), the Q7 was Audi's first-ever SUV — a full-size, three-row seven-seater on the Volkswagen Group PL71 platform shared with the Porsche Cayenne and VW Touareg. It launched with a 4.2-litre V8 and added a 3.6-litre V6 and TDI diesel variants; V12 TDI and e-tron hybrid concepts followed.
A second generation (Typ 4M) arrived in 2015 (2016 model year), dramatically lighter than the outgoing car thanks to an aluminium-intensive MLB Evo structure — over 320 kg lighter than its predecessor. This generation was also offered as an SQ7 with a 435-hp twin-turbo V8 and, uniquely, an electrically powered compressor for near-instant response, and as a Q7 TFSI e plug-in hybrid.
