History

European sales of the Audi Q8 (Typ 4MN) began in July 2018, making it Audi's answer to the coupe-SUV trend pioneered by the BMW X6. Built on the MLB Evo platform it shares with the Q7, Porsche Cayenne, and Lamborghini Urus, the Q8 sacrificed some of the Q7's third-row seating for a steeply raked roofline and sportier proportions. A 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 with 48-volt mild-hybrid assistance was the primary drivetrain from launch.

The SQ8 performance variant (507 hp, 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8) and the RS Q8 (600 hp, the same V8 tuned by Audi Sport) followed quickly, with the RS Q8 earning acclaim as the fastest production SUV around the Nürburgring at the time of its 2019 launch.
