Aion Aion LX History

The Aion LX was revealed at Auto Shanghai in April 2019, went on pre-sale in August 2019, and entered production in October 2019. Built on GAC's second-generation pure-electric GEP 2.0 platform, it was the brand's first dedicated SUV and a deliberate technology showcase: a drag coefficient of 0.258 Cd, standard Level 3 autonomous-driving capability, and battery options ranging from 73 kWh (523 km NEDC) to 93 kWh NCM811 (650 km NEDC) with dual-motor all-wheel drive producing 490 hp (360 kW) and a 3.9-second 0–100 km/h sprint.

In November 2021 GAC Aion unveiled the LX Plus, a slightly longer derivative fitted with a 144.4 kWh battery pack claimed at 1,008 km NEDC range — one of the longest official ranges of any production EV at the time. The LX Plus went on sale in January 2022 at around 72,000 USD, positioning Aion squarely against premium imported EVs in the Chinese luxury market.
