Perodua Myvi History
History
Launched in May 2005, the Myvi was Perodua's move into the B-segment and instantly became a sensation. Based on the Daihatsu Boon / Daihatsu Sirion (also sold as the Toyota Passo), it offered a modern, spacious interior, responsive 1.0 L and 1.3 L engines, and competitively low pricing that made it the natural first car for Malaysian families.
The Myvi topped Malaysia's annual sales charts for nine consecutive years — 2006 through 2014 — with the first generation (2005–2011) shifting roughly 487,400 units. The second generation (2011–2017), known by the tagline 'Lagi Best' (Better Still), added a 1.5 L engine option, standard dual airbags — the first national-badge car in Malaysia to include them across the range — and ISOFIX child-seat anchors.
The third generation, launched in November 2017, was a landmark: Perodua designed it almost entirely in-house rather than rebadging a Daihatsu model, retaining Toyota/Daihatsu engines but contributing its own body, interior, and electronic architecture. It brought a D-CVT dual-mode continuously variable transmission, pre-collision warning, and lane-keeping assist to an accessible price point. The Myvi reclaimed the sales crown from 2018 to 2022.
