History

Launched in January 2019, the Aruz was Perodua's entry into the full-size SUV segment — a seven-seat, body-on-frame vehicle based on the third-generation Daihatsu Terios (also sold as the Toyota Rush). Its 1.5 L naturally aspirated engine paired to a four-speed automatic gave it straightforward, reliable ownership economics.

The Aruz sat above all of Perodua's existing hatchbacks and MPVs in both size and price, broadening the brand's reach into the SUV-hungry segment. It sold 15,313 units in 2021 alone, demonstrating strong demand despite its relatively simple engineering compared to more expensive rivals.
