Paykan Paykan Pickup / Bardo History

A pickup / coupe-utility variant was added to the Paykan range in 1967, the same year the saloon launched, filling demand for a light commercial vehicle built from familiar, easily-sourced components. Later joined by the Paykan Vanet — a commercial van derivative introduced in 1969 — the pickup body was domestically engineered with a different shell from the saloon, giving it a distinctly Iranian character rather than a direct translation of any Rootes body.

When Iran Khodro ended saloon production in May 2005, the pickup lineage was renamed the Bardo and continued in production, with final assembly shifted from Tehran to the Tabriz plant in 2007. Over 562,000 Bardos were assembled in Tabriz alone before the model finally ended production on 10 March 2015, nearly a decade after the saloon's last day and 48 years after the nameplate's debut.
