Foton Tunland History

The Foton Tunland entered production in November 2011 as Foton's first serious international pickup contender. Unlike cheaper Chinese rivals it was engineered from the outset with premium supplier content — a Cummins 2.8 L diesel, Getrag six-speed gearbox, BorgWarner transfer case, and Dana axles — giving it credible off-road and towing credentials for markets in Southeast Asia, Australia, Latin America, and the Philippines.

Early E3 and E5 variants sold from 2011 through 2018; a facelift added the E5 and E7 trims in 2018, followed by the Shengtu 5 and Shengtu 7 in December 2019. The mid-size Tunland Yutu arrived alongside the Shengtu refresh that same year. A global product push in the early 2020s delivered the Tunland G7 (2021) and G9 (2022) for export markets, and since 2023 the full-size Mars 7 and Mars 9 have been sold internationally as the Tunland V7 and V9, giving the nameplate genuine full-size truck reach.

The Tunland has been assembled in China (Beijing) and, until 2019, at the Bangchan plant in Bangkok for the Thai market and regional exports. In Cambodia it has been rebadged as the Kouprey line by GTV Motor; in Malaysia as the Bison Savanna — a sign of the nameplate's growing Southeast Asian footprint.
