History

Introduced in 2017, the Range Rover Velar filled the gap between the compact Evoque and the Range Rover Sport with a strong emphasis on minimalist, design-driven luxury — flush deployable door handles, a twin-touchscreen interior, and clean surfacing. Its name revived 'Velar', the codename used for the original Range Rover prototypes of the late 1960s.

Built on the same aluminium-intensive platform family as the Jaguar F-Pace, the Velar offered a range of petrol, diesel, and later plug-in-hybrid powertrains, positioning itself as the most overtly style-led model in the Range Rover lineup.
