History

Introduced in 2014 (on sale from 2015), the Discovery Sport replaced the five-door Freelander as Land Rover's compact family SUV, adding the option of a third row of seats in a relatively small footprint. It adopted the Discovery sub-brand identity rather than the Freelander name.

Built on a platform shared with the Range Rover Evoque, it has been updated with mild-hybrid and plug-in-hybrid powertrains and remains one of Land Rover's higher-volume models, pitched at families wanting Land Rover capability and badge appeal in a smaller, more affordable package.
