History

The Urus concept was first shown at the 2012 Beijing Auto Show; the production version debuted in December 2017 as a 2018 model, becoming Lamborghini's first SUV under Volkswagen Group ownership and only the second in company history after the LM002. Built on the VW Group MLB Evo platform shared with the Audi Q7, Bentley Bentayga, and Porsche Cayenne, it uses a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 producing 641 hp.

The Urus immediately became Lamborghini's best-selling model, surpassing cumulative Gallardo and Huracán sales within a few years and allowing the company to double production volumes. By 2022 Lamborghini had produced 20,000 Urus examples — far faster than any other Lamborghini model. The Urus S replaced the base Urus for 2023 with 657 hp, and the Urus SE plug-in hybrid arrived with 789 hp combined, making it the fastest production SUV in the world at the time of launch.
