Lamborghini 400 GT History

The 400 GT replaced the 350 GT for 1966 with a displacement increase to 3,929 cc and the addition of a proper 2+2 rear-seat layout — making it more practical for touring while retaining the V12 character of its predecessor. Lamborghini built 23 examples of the narrow-bodied 400 GT 2+2 prototype and 224 of the production 2+2, for a combined run that established the marque as a credible builder of fast, refined GTs.

The 400 GT's production overlap with the revolutionary Miura — which also launched in 1966 — illustrated the two parallel directions Lamborghini would pursue: the elegant front-engine tourer and the mid-engine supercar.
