Lamborghini LM002 History

The LM002's lineage traced to a failed military-contract project (the Cheetah and LM001 prototypes of the late 1970s and early 1980s), which used rear-mounted American V8s. Lamborghini relocated the engine to the front and dropped in the 5.2-litre V12 from the Countach Quattrovalvole, producing 450 hp, for the production LM002 that premiered at the 1986 Brussels Auto Show.

Nicknamed 'Rambo-Lambo' for its imposing proportions and military aesthetic, the LM002 was nonetheless appointed with full leather, air conditioning, and premium audio inside, and it ran on bespoke Pirelli Scorpion tyres developed specifically for the vehicle. Saudi Arabia was a key customer. Some 301 examples were built before production ended in 1993, making it a curiosity that predated the Urus SUV by 25 years.
