Lamborghini Gallardo History

Developed under Audi stewardship, the Gallardo debuted at the 2003 Geneva Motor Show as Lamborghini's 'entry-level' V10-powered supercar, aimed squarely at the Ferrari 360. Its 5.0-litre DOHC V10 and all-wheel-drive system made it tractable enough for everyday use while delivering genuine 193 mph performance — and its relative affordability (compared to the V12 Murciélago) opened Lamborghini to a much wider audience.

The Gallardo spawned an enormous family of variants across two generations: the Spyder convertible launched in 2006; the LP 570-4 Superleggera of 2010 shaved weight for track focus; and the final Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse of 2013 was the street-legal variant of the Super Trofeo race car. The final Gallardo — a white LP 570-4 Spyder Performante — rolled off the line on 25 November 2013, the 14,022nd example, making it the best-selling Lamborghini in history to that point.
