Great Wall Motors Tank 300 History
History
Introduced at the August 2020 Chengdu Auto Show as the Wey Tank 300 and placed on sale in China on 17 December 2020, the Tank 300 is a mid-size body-on-frame SUV with deliberately retro-military styling, built on the same ladder-frame platform as the GWM Cannon pickup.
In April 2021, the Tank brand was spun off from Wey as a standalone sub-brand specialising in luxury off-road vehicles, and the 300 became its entry model — powered by a 2.0-litre turbo four producing 224 hp and offering locking front and rear differentials, low-range gearing, a 'tank turn' pivot function, and 224 mm of ground clearance.
The Tank 300 is exported to multiple markets and attracted significant attention as an affordable body-on-frame off-roader in the class of the Jeep Wrangler and Ford Bronco; a Tank 300 Hi4-T plug-in-hybrid variant was launched in 2024.
