History

Introduced in April 2005 as the Great Wall Hover CUV — later renamed the Haval H3 when the Haval marque was formalised — this compact SUV marked GWM's pivot from pickups to passenger SUVs.

In 2006, approximately 30,000 Hover units were shipped to Italy, making it the first Chinese car exported in significant volumes to Western Europe and demonstrating that Chinese SUVs could reach developed markets.

The H3 was produced through 2012, when it was succeeded by the improved Haval H5.
