Geely Borui (GC9) History
History
Unveiled at Beijing's Water Cube in December 2014 and launched on the Chinese market on 10 April 2015, the Borui (internally coded GC9) was a landmark for Geely: it was the first car developed under Peter Horbury, the British designer recruited from Volvo in 2011. Its exterior drew on the KC Concept shown at the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show, combining fastback proportions with Geely's 'ripple' intake grille.
The Borui was positioned as a D-segment mid-to-large sedan, measuring nearly 4,956 mm long on a 2,850-mm wheelbase, and was launched with three engines — a 1.8-litre turbo, a 2.4-litre naturally aspirated, and a 3.5-litre V6 — the V6 producing 275 hp and competing directly with Buick Lacrosse and other domestic luxury contenders.
A sportier Borui GE variant arrived in subsequent years with hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains, extending the nameplate into electrified territory.
