Ashok Leyland Titan History

Ashok Leyland introduced the Titan in 1967 as India's first double-decker bus, a milestone that arrived nearly two decades after the company's founding. The Titan carried a localisation level of 50 percent — high for the era — and became the backbone of double-decker services in cities including Bombay (Mumbai), where such buses became an enduring cultural icon.

The Titan's introduction marked the point at which Ashok Leyland moved beyond freight vehicles into urban passenger transport at scale. Its success led the company to invest in further bus development through the 1970s, producing the Viking and Cheetah platforms that followed.
