Ashok Leyland AVTR History

Ashok Leyland launched the AVTR (Advanced Vehicle with Transformative Range) modular truck platform in June 2020, coinciding with India's transition to BS6 emissions norms. AVTR was billed as the first modular platform in the Indian commercial-vehicle industry — a single architecture capable of producing rigid trucks, tippers, and tractors from 18.5 to 55 tonnes through configurable axle arrangements (two, three, or four axles), cabin options (single and double), suspension variants, and drivetrains ranging from 197 to 315 bhp in rear-wheel-drive or four-wheel-drive.

The platform was engineered for right-hand-drive and left-hand-drive markets and had accumulated over six million kilometres of field testing before launch. By offering what Ashok Leyland described as more than 600,000 possible configurations from a single common platform, AVTR was designed to simplify production while broadening the company's addressable market across South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.
