Alfa Romeo 4C History

The 4C debuted in production form at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show and entered production at Maserati's Modena plant two months later. Its philosophy was absolute minimalism: a carbon-fibre monocoque weighing just 895 kg (dry), a 1.75-litre turbocharged four-cylinder mounted amidships, and no power steering — deliberately raw.

For the US market, the 4C was introduced at the 2014 New York Auto Show as Alfa Romeo's full re-entry into America after nearly two decades. The open-top 4C Spider followed for 2015. US emissions and crash regulations added around 100 kg, a compromise the brand accepted to be present in the American market. Global production totalled roughly 9,000 units over seven years; the 4C Coupé was discontinued for North America after the 2017 model year, with the Spider continuing through 2020.
