Zagato Aston Martin V8 Vantage Zagato History

Introduced at the 1986 Geneva Motor Show, the Aston Martin V8 Vantage Zagato rekindled the partnership that had produced the DB4 GT Zagato a quarter century earlier. Zagato designed and built a new lightweight aluminium body — shorter, lower and lighter than the standard Vantage — housing Aston's 5.3-litre V8. Fifty cars were originally planned; in practice 52 coupes were completed, along with a separate run of Volante (convertible) variants.

The car was built to order for clients who had deposited at the 1986 show; deliveries began in 1987. Both the coupe and the Volante carried substantial price premiums over the standard Vantage, and the collaboration re-established the commercial template for limited-run Zagato commissions that continues to the present day.
