Zagato Alfa Romeo Junior Zagato History

Designed by Ercole Spada at Zagato and unveiled at the 51st Turin Motor Show in November 1969, the Junior Zagato placed a slippery fastback coupe body on the Alfa Romeo Giulia GT Junior floorpan. The wedge-nosed shape was notably aerodynamic for its era, featuring Zagato's characteristic double-bubble roofline and a nearly vertical tail.

The first series, powered by the 1,290 cc twin-cam engine producing around 89 bhp, ran from 1969 to 1972 with 1,108 units produced. A second series followed in 1972 with the 1,570 cc 1600 engine and ran to 1975, adding 402 cars. Total production reached 1,510 examples — modest even by coachbuilt standards, which accounts for the model's collector desirability today.
