Wolseley 6/80 History

Introduced in 1948 alongside the new Morris-derived range, the 6/80 was Wolseley's flagship: a four-door saloon powered by a 2.2-litre overhead-camshaft straight-six producing about 72 hp. It shared its body and structure with the four-cylinder Wolseley 4/50 and the contemporary Morris Six, dressed up with the marque's traditional grille and a wood-and-leather interior.

The 6/80 is best remembered as a quintessential British police car — its good power-to-weight ratio and sturdy handling made it a fixture of 1950s constabularies, kept in service well into the following decade and immortalised in period film and television. Production ran to 1954, when it was replaced by the 6/90.
