Wolseley 18/85 History
History
Introduced in March 1967, the 18/85 was Wolseley's take on BMC's ADO17 'landcrab' — the front-wheel-drive, transversely-engined Austin/Morris 1800. It used the 1.8-litre B-series four and brought the marque's traditional grille, walnut and leather to the roomy, technically advanced big saloon.
In 1972 the cars gained BMC's six-cylinder E6 engine, and the Wolseley version was simply renamed the Wolseley Six. Roughly 35,597 18/85s and 25,214 Sixes were built before the ADO17 line ended in 1975, replaced by the wedge-shaped 18-22 series — making this the last of the traditional, separately-bodied Wolseley saloons.
