Wolseley 1100/1300 History

The Wolseley 1100 appeared in September 1965 as the upmarket member of BMC's hugely successful ADO16 family — the Alec Issigonis-engineered, front-wheel-drive, Hydrolastic-suspended small car that was Britain's best-seller for much of the 1960s. A 1300 version followed.

Like its Riley and Vanden Plas siblings, the Wolseley added the traditional grille, extra brightwork and a wood-and-leather cabin to the Austin/Morris 1100/1300. The Wolseley 1300 Mk II was dropped in August 1973 as British Leyland thinned out its overlapping marques.
