History

The Voyah Free debuted as a concept at the 2020 Beijing Auto Show alongside the brand's public launch, and entered series production in January 2021 after a formal commercial launch in December 2020. It was co-designed with ItalDesign Giugiaro and built on Dongfeng's ESSA platform, making it the first production vehicle for the new Voyah marque. Two powertrain configurations were offered at launch: a pure battery-electric variant with a NEDC range of 500 km, and an extended-range electric (REEV) pairing a petrol generator with an electric drivetrain for a NEDC combined range of 860 km — a headline figure that helped establish Voyah's premium positioning.

The pure-electric variant was discontinued in August 2023 as demand shifted toward the extended-range model. A second generation, marketed as the Voyah Free+, was introduced in July 2025; it is REEV-only, incorporates Huawei's ADS 4 advanced driver-assistance system and HarmonyOS 5 infotainment, and attracted 11,583 firm orders within 15 minutes of launch. Production takes place in Wuhan, China, with additional assembly lines in Lipetsk, Russia, and Abu Dhabi, UAE.
