History
The Prince Henry grew out of Vauxhall's competition success, including the 1908 RAC 2,000 Mile Trial, which led the company to build cars for the 1910 Prince Henry Trials in Germany. Replicas of those trial cars sold quickly and became known as Prince Henry Vauxhalls.
Designed under engineer Laurence Pomeroy and sold from 1911, it is regarded as one of the first true sports cars and among the fastest road cars of its day. It began with a 3-litre engine; a larger 4-litre version followed in 1913. The Prince Henry's chassis and side-valve engine were the direct basis for the legendary 30-98 that followed it.
