Vauxhall Cresta History
History
The Cresta arrived in 1954 as the upmarket, better-trimmed version of the six-cylinder Vauxhall Velox, itself derived from the four-cylinder Wyvern. It ran across four series — E (1954–1957), PA (1957–1962), PB (1962–1965) and PC (1965–1972).
The standout is the PA of 1957, which embraced American styling fashion with tail fins, wrap-around windscreens and whitewall tyres, its look inspired by contemporary GM products in the US. Production of the Cresta ended in 1972 with no direct replacement, as British makers retreated from the upper end of the family-car market.
