Valmet Automotive Opel Calibra (1991–1997) History
History
The Opel Calibra, a sleek aerodynamic front-wheel-drive coupe noted for its then-record 0.26 drag coefficient, was produced at two sites: Opel's Rüsselsheim plant and Valmet's Uusikaupunki factory. Valmet's Finnish run began in 1991 and continued until the Calibra was discontinued in 1997.
When Opel consolidated Calibra output in November 1995, the Finnish plant became the sole production site for the model's final years. Valmet assembled approximately 93,978 Calibras — roughly 40 percent of total Calibra production across both facilities.
