Trumpchi M8 History
History
Debuted at Auto Guangzhou in 2017 and launched for sale in the first quarter of 2018, the GM8 (as it was originally called) was the largest passenger vehicle GAC had ever built at the time and entered the competitive 7-seat full-size MPV segment dominated by the Buick GL8. Renamed the M8 in 2020 for the Chinese domestic market (GN8 in global markets), it signaled Trumpchi's ambitions in the premium business-MPV space that is extraordinarily popular in China's corporate and family markets.
A completely redesigned second generation M8 arrived in 2022, with more luxurious interior appointments and updated technology, reinforcing its positioning as a flagship product. A plug-in hybrid E9 variant was introduced in 2023. The cumulative M8 / GM8 lineup contributed to the broader GAC Trumpchi MPV family surpassing 800,000 units of total MPV sales — a milestone that underscored the model's importance to the brand.
