Trumpchi Empow History

The Empow (Chinese name 'Shadow Leopard') marked a generational shift for Trumpchi's sedans: rather than the carryover Alfa Romeo-derived architecture that underpinned earlier models, it debuted on GAC's self-developed Global Platform Modular Architecture (GPMA) — a first for the brand's compact segment. The production car was unveiled at the 2021 Shanghai Auto Show.

Styled aggressively with a low 1,432 mm roofline and a drag coefficient of 0.26 Cd, the Empow came powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder producing 177 PS (130 kW) paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Pricing spanned roughly 98,300–131,800 yuan, positioning it as an attainable performance-flavored compact. Cumulative sales reached approximately 175,000 units by mid-2025, with an annual peak of around 45,700 in 2022.
